NAACP Image Awards: To Be Glam, Gifted, and Black

I’ll tell you a secret: I don’t like awards shows. I find them pretentious, hokey, and painfully political. How many times have you watched one and gasped when you heard the winner of a category who simply didn’t deserve it? EXACTLY.

Well, I watched the NAACP Image Awards on Friday and was so moved to see people who truly delivered pristine work in ’09, get recognized. That said, here are a few people who DELIVERED (read: served) it on the red carpet:

76! Cicely Tyson is 76 years old and she looks phenom. Not many (at any age) accomplish dignified-yet-fun glam. Perfection.

I love Keri Hilson’s playful Flamingo-dancer-style gown. So happy she went the nude-nails route rather than the predictable onyx.

Taraji P. Henson killed it in this curve-hugging, blue gown. And I adore her sleek, structured hair style that still looks soft and touchable.
